one of detroit's three chairs comes back to chicago for a wednesday gig. his sound is on the edgy side of deep house, along the lines of three chairs co-occupant moodymann. with chicago's BOO WILLIAMS and GLENN UNDERGROUND.

one of the original perlon dons comes to chicago to drop a live PA! he released what is probably the best-known perlon tune, "bushes" (in the park) - which was re-released in numerous places, including derrick carter and luke solomon's classic imprint. with MILES MAEDA and HEATHER.
this is a benefit for miles' world evolution organization. for those not familiar, he holds special yoga and meditation sessions.

the formerly bald one comes through house of blues for a late-night set tonight (1 AM - 4 AM according to the minus site). he will be coming with a bunch of new technology incorporated into his custom mixer. isn't that just like him? well, decide for yourselves - with process being such a huge part of his presentation, is there a point at which added technology actually stops making a noticeable difference, or even detracts from the effect of the set? or is this the next step in the evolution of djing? (and if it is the next step, how much do we care?)

the now well-known metro area (morgan geist, darshan jesrani) returns to dj in smart bar with chicago's common factor! this is a very nice pairing which should go over well on the floor. metro area and common factor both push a retro-modern feel with a great deal of respect for their predecessors; unlike many 70s/80s influenced artists, it's not so much about ripping off as rediscovering. i would expect a mixture of dusty disco, italo, soul, and funk, along with classic house and techno.

BMG of ECTOMORPH comes through to a new biweekly electro night called "nude." with the help of ableton "live", a piece of software used to synch tracks and loops and do other cool live performance-related tasks, BMG takes his djing to the next level. he selects pieces of tracks and custom re-edits (including electro, techno, classic tracks, italo, and general 70s and 80s bits), and assembles them on the fly. coupled with his unparalleled record collection, you've got yourself a party. all electro poseurs beware. with LUIS AGUILERA.

the drillbit breakbeat stylings of squarepusher (warp records) make a stop at the empty bottle, with wagon christ guy luke vibert. although the empty bottle site still recommends purchasing tickets in advance, the show is apparently sold out.

old school breakbeat idm guy mike paradinas comes through the bottle to befuddle print typesetters and htmlers everywhere (µ). a PA from about 2 years ago seems to reflect an affection for breakcore. ironic, fun, or generally asinine - who knows.

DAN BELL aka DBX returns to chicago! fresh off his new mix cd on logistic (which is a cool walk along the techno/house border), we're being treated to a rare event - a dan bell live PA, the first live PA he's done in chicago in over 8 years, and one of two he's doing this year! for something as cool as this could be, the night has been somewhat under-promoted and low-key, so do not miss out!

with paxahau's CHUCK FLASH, and residents JOSH WERNER and MARKO KATIC.

(check out paxahau, one of the cooler music sites on the web, with dj and live sets from many of detroit's finest as well as numerous great international artists.)
